–Iowa residents interested in applying for the recently approved Education Savings Accounts have just over a week to submit their application to the state. Christy Peterson will take over as President of Bishop Garrigan Schools on July 1st, and she tells KLGA News families can apply for an ESA before officially deciding on whether they will send their child to a private school.

Peterson says they know there is interest from area families about using an ESA to send their kids to Bishop Garrigan, but they don’t know exactly how many.

Peterson says if you are considering sending your kids to a private school, the application must be in by 11:59 PM on June 30th.

Peterson believes they have plenty of open space for those who would like to apply.

For the next 2 years, families with children in public schools that are at or below 300% of the 2023 Federal Poverty Guidelines can apply for the Educational Savings Account. For example, 300% for the Federal Poverty Guidelines for a family of four is $90,000. In the third year of the program, any Iowa family, including those that don’t meet the income guidelines can apply. Those that apply and qualify will receive 100% of the same budget year’s regular program state cost per pupil, which was $7,413 for this past school year for each child they place in a private school.
