–Algona Municipal Utilities is trying to determine if their generation equipment will be up to the task of meeting the future energy demands for area residents. AMU General Manager John Bilsten tells KLGA News their Board of Trustees has approved an agreement with DGR Engineering to get a better idea of where they stand with today’s equipment.

Bilsten says the demand for energy isn’t going to be shrinking in the coming years.

He says the generation study will address three main concerns for AMU.

Bilsten says that the increase in renewable energy sources in our area has also led to the increase in demand for AMU to generate power locally.

Bilsten says the study should take about six months to complete, at which time they can begin to look at making any necessary changes.
