–The first in a series of dinners featuring international cuisine is scheduled to kick off tonight at the Algona First Congregational United Church of Christ. The Community & Culture Connections group is helping to organize this series of meals, where people can come together and offer an evening of sharing food, culture, and stories.

Tonight’s event is entitled “International Delight: Cuba Night”, and will include an appetizer, main course and dessert. The menu for tonight includes Ropa Vieja (beef with black beans and rice), served with yuca/cassava and arroz con leche (rice pudding).

Community & Culture Connections leader Jennifer Davis says, “The goal of the group that has been planning the International Delight dinner series is to provide an opportunity to share common experiences and interests with newer Algona residents, while enjoying typical and delicious meals from various countries represented in our community and county.”

A team of people from the First Congregational United Church of Christ and St. Thomas Episcopal church are working with the group to assist local families with putting on the meals. A grant from the Haggard-Twogood Charitable Trust was awarded to Community & Culture Connections to help with event expenses.

The meal is being served from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Algona First Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 315 S. Moore Street. A freewill donation will be accepted, as both dine-in and carryout options are available.
