–Court documents indicate the Woden man who is charged with killing his estranged wife over the weekend may have been the person who instructed law enforcement officials to conduct a welfare check at her residence.
56-year-old Roger Crews Jr. is being charged with 1st Degree Murder, after the body of 56-year-old Karen Crews was discovered inside the residence at 633 Way Avenue in Woden Saturday morning.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says that Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call to conduct a welfare check at that address just after 11AM Saturday. Upon arrival, they found Karen Crews inside the residence, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A criminal complaint filed Monday in Hancock County District Court states that Roger Crews was the person who called authorities, saying they would need to conduct that welfare check. He was extradited back to Iowa Monday after being taken into custody without incident Saturday night in Freeborn County, Minnesota.
Crews made an initial court appearance Tuesday, where his bond was set at $10 Million. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 9th in Hancock County District Court.
