–The Kossuth County Dementia Care Group will be hosting a fundraising lunch event on Thursday. Board spokesperson Kris Schlievert tells KLGA News that they decided to host a Potato Bar this year as opposed to previous fundraising meals.
Schlievert says the group is trying to provide support to those who take care of loved ones suffering from dementia.
Schlievert says the group is starting to gain some traction around the area after coming together a little more than a year ago.
The Potato Bar meal will go from 11 AM-1 PM Thursday at the United Methodist Church in downtown Algona. Along with the baked potato and various toppings, you’ll get bread and a dessert for a free will donation, as all proceeds will go to benefit the Kossuth County Dementia Care group. Statistics from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services estimate that some 60,000 Iowan’s have Alzheimer’s Disease, or some other form of dementia, and over 70,000 unpaid caregivers help provide support.
