–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors began discussions about implementing a dog ordinance in the rural parts of the county during their meeting on Tuesday. Sheriff Roger Fisher addressed the board and said each community has an ordinance in place that determines how they handle dog related complaints.

Fisher says even when they can place a dog in the local pound, that action alone does not solve all the problems that may exist with the animal. He says right now they are waiting for final word on what can be done with a dog that recently killed some other animals.

Fisher says property owners in rural areas do have the right to defend themselves and their animals if dogs get out of control.

The board also heard from members of a church in rural Kossuth County that aired concerns after some dogs from an adjacent property have been bothering worshippers. The Supervisors instructed Fisher to see what other counties have on the books with regards to dog ordinances for rural areas, and they will revisit the matter during future meetings.
