The Britt Police Department announced through a press release Friday on Facebook that on January 31st, Principal Peterson of the West Hancock High School informed Law Enforcement of some concerns from students and parents regarding a rumor of a school shooting at the school. Peterson followed the trace of said rumors and found no evidence of any sort of school shooting. On February 1st, more students and parents would raise concerns about possible threats and comments made. Peterson reached out again to Britt PD and further action was taken.

According to the Britt PD, after multiple interviews with students and staff, the source of the threats/comments was found. The Britt PD believes there is no threat of any violence from the source of where these comments and threats originated. Whether verified or not, the Britt PD looks to handle any and all threats the same and conduct a thorough investigation to the fullest extent possible.
