Algona Municipal Utilities will team up with the North Iowa Area Council of Governments (NIACOG) to try and secure grant funding for a grid resiliency project. AMU General Manager John Bilsten tells KLGA News their Board of Trustees approved the agreement during a meeting on Wednesday.
The agreement will see AMU pay NIACOG a total of $4,000 for their assistance in seeking this grant funding from the Iowa Economic Development Authority and their Iowa Grid Resilience Fund.
Bilsten says moving critical infrastructure below ground will help AMU avoid major outages due to severe weather.
Bilsten says they need to get to work right away to submit their application on time.
The IEDA established four objectives for the Iowa Grid Resilience Fund to guide investment decisions, and those objectives are to increase grid resilience, facilitate faster service restoration, benefit underserved populations and expand the area’s workforce.
