Swea City Stop Ends with Pair of Arrests

–A traffic stop in Swea City Wednesday night ended with a pair of area residents being arrested.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 4th Street North in Swea City around 10 PM Wednesday. While conducting the stop, a certified K9 Officer alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.

Following a search of the vehicle, Deputies arrested 42-year-old Mary Margaret Anderson of Swea City. Anderson is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a Class D Felony, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to have a Valid Driver’s License.

While Deputies were conducting the stop, they were approached by a male individual who attempted to interfere with the incident. Deputies determined the man was intoxicated, and subsequently arrested 42-year-old Richard Lewellen of Bancroft on a charge of Public Intoxication.

Both Anderson and Lewellen were booked into the Kossuth County jail to await an initial court appearance.
