–State Auditor Rob Sand made a stop in Algona on Wednesday afternoon, holding a town hall style meeting to hear from area residents. Sand made stops throughout Northwest Iowa Wednesday, handing out awards in the Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) program. Sand talked about the program while mentioning area cities and schools who participated.

While none of the area participants won awards this year, the cities of Algona, Swea City and Bancroft all take part in the program, along with the Algona and North Kossuth School Districts. Last year, Kossuth County did receive recognition for programs implemented at Kossuth Regional Health Center. Along with the PIE program, Sand was asked about the law that Governor Kim Reynolds signed back in June directed at the Auditor’s office.

Sand also discussed oversight of taxpayer dollars going to Educational Savings Accounts for private school students.

Sand, the only Democrat to hold a statewide elected office in Iowa, did not entertain questions about his political future during his stop in Algona. He was originally scheduled to host this event back in June, but it had to be rescheduled at that time due to extensive flooding across Northwest Iowa.
