–A History Professor at North Iowa Area Community College will present some of his research into the life and times of Reverend Edler G. Hawkins during a special event Saturday night in Titonka. Damien Strecker recently served as the director of the Titonka Public Library, and he tells KLGA News the event will highlight some of Hawkins’ accomplishments, which include being the first African American to be elected Moderator of the United Presbyterian Church.
Strecker is conducting research on Hawkins’ life as part of his efforts to receive a doctorate degree.
The presentation, entitled “Done in Love: The Life of Rev. Edler G. Hawkins” is scheduled to begin Saturday at 6 PM inside the Titonka Public Library.
The event is completely free of charge and open to the public.
