–Both drivers suffered minor injuries when two vehicles collided in southern Kossuth County late last week.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 72-year-old Larry Smith was traveling southbound on 100th Avenue in a 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew truck around 3:45 PM on Thursday (Jan. 2). The accident report states that Smith failed to yield the right of way when entering the intersection with County Road B63, and collided with an eastbound 2006 Pontiac Montana van, driven by 65-year-old Lavonn Kruse of Lone Rock.
Smith told Deputies he was unable to see the Kruse vehicle due to the sun being in his eyes, and a previous injury that limits his ability to rotate his neck to see oncoming traffic.
Both drivers reported possible minor injuries and were transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Kruse was taken by private vehicle while Smith was transported by Kossuth County EMS.
Smith was cited for failure to yield. Damage to his truck was estimated at $1,000, while damage to Kruse’s van was estimated at $3,000.
