–Kossuth County is now under a open burn ban until further notice as dry conditions persist throughout the area.
Kossuth County Emergency Management Coordinator Charissa Mueller announced Monday morning that the ban will prohibit all open burning activities until conditions change. This includes the burning of leaves, brush, and other materials.
Iowa code dictates that the State Fire Marshall’s Office can implement a burn ban when they determine that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property in the area.
Kossuth County is now one of 14 across the state that currently has an open burn ban in place, most of which are in Northeast Iowa. You can see the complete list of counties that have burn bans in place by going to www.dps.iowa.gov.
