–Officials with the Iowa State Patrol want to remind motorists about the dangers of passing a stopped school bus. Trooper Paul Gardner tells KLGA News they are seeing an uptick in the number of drivers who are cited for illegally passing a school bus.

Gardner says they work with school districts to make sure students can get on and off of their bus safely.

Passing a stopped school bus is dangerous and can quickly turn deadly.

With improved technology, Gardner says drivers who are paying attention should be able to see a school bus without any problem when they are out on the road.

Drivers who illegally pass a school bus will face a minimum fine of $345 and could lose their driver’s license as well.
