–Ash tree removals will resume this spring across Algona as the City Council awarded a contract for the work to mitigate damage done by the Emerald Ash Borer during their meeting this week. Deputy City Administrator Barb Smith addressed the council, and she says they opened bidding for the project at the end of January.
D & J Tree Service out of Whittemore submitted the lowest bid of $40,920 and the council awarded them the contract. Smith says they will nearly be halfway done with tree removals when this batch is done.
In other news, the city will also host an informational meeting for homeowners in three areas of town that will be involved in the sanitary sewer inspection program this year next week. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden says the program will include two sections on the northeast side of Algona and one on the southwest side.
The informational letter that homeowners in these areas will receive also contains information on how they can set up an appointment for their inspection.
Homeowners in the Yellow, Blue, and Green sections on the map below will be contacted. The red zone was completed in the fall of 2024.
