–Demolition work on the former Peck Auction property will begin soon as the Algona City Council awarded a contract for the work this week. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden outlined what will need to be done on the site between the Algona Aquatic Center and Call State Park.

In March of 2024, the Donald R. Tietz Charitable Foundation donated the land to the city in an effort to expand recreational opportunities. The property contains some 51-acres of green space and has access to the East Fork of the Des Moines River on two sides. Tjaden says the city sought bids from four different companies and received three in total.

The main auction building will remain on the property, as it is currently being used to house a temporary dog pound. Work on the project should be completed by the middle of June.
