Charges Filed after Whittemore Fight Ends with Stabbing

–A West Bend man was taken into custody Saturday night after allegedly stabbing another person during an altercation in Whittemore.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the 400 block of Broad Street in Whittemore around 9:45 PM Saturday after receiving a report of and altercation between two males. The altercation resulted in one of the participants being stabbed and the other fleeing the area on foot.

Officers from the Algona Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation, and after gathering statements and video evidence, they determined the suspect was still in the area.

K9 Officers were also brought in to assist the search, and eventually they located and arrested 27-year-old Yoni Angulo Antonio of West Bend. He is being charged with Assault while Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication, both Simple Misdemeanors.

Antonio was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.

The victim in the case was transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona for treatment, and was later released. Both Whittemore and Kossuth County EMS also assisted at the scene.
