–Kossuth Regional Health Center handed out a pair of awards Tuesday in recognition of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week.
The DAISY award is presented annually to a nurse who goes above and beyond in providing extraordinary care to patients at KRHC, while the BEE award honors a staff member that offers tremendous service in a non-patient care role.
Ashely Thompson was selected as this year’s DAISY award winner out of 18 nurses who were nominated by a patient, family member or co-worker. Thompson is a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit at KRHC who has been serving patients for 10 years.

Part of Thompson’s nomination read “Ashley is the most amazing, professional nurse I have ever encountered; my life has been forever changed by her care.”
Chris Koch, who serves as a Maintenance Mechanic at KRHC was selected as the 2025 BEE award winner. He was described as “the eye in the storm” and someone who can stay calm and find solutions no matter the problem.

Nominations for the DAISY and BEE awards are taken throughout the year, and can be submitted by patients, families, co-workers, or anyone who has witnessed a great nurse or staff member in action. Nominations can be sent to Kossuth Regional Health Center at 1515 S. Phillips Street in Algona, or they can be submitted online at www.krhc.com.
