–A group of Hungarian nationals made a stop in Algona on Sunday to pay tribute to the namesake of Kossuth County. Lajos Kossuth was a Hungarian diplomat, politician, and freedom fighter who is considered by many scholars and historians to be the “Father of Hungarian Democracy”. Csilla Grauzer serves as Honorary Consul from the Hungarian Consul’s office in Minnesota, and she told those who gathered in front of the statue at the Kossuth County Courthouse that she was on hand in 2001 when it was dedicated.
Grauzer says the legacy of Lajos Kossuth rings true today as it did during his own time.
While talking in front of the Kossuth statue in downtown Algona, Grazer said the statue itself is a tribute to more than just one man.

Grauzer was joined by Gabriella Sinka Heath, President of the Minnesota Hungarians organization. She says Hungarians carry Kossuth’s legacy close to their heart.
Following a ceremony in front of the courthouse, the group also took time to go through the Kossuth County Historical Museum.
