–Kossuth County officials are raising concerns over the cost to provide Emergency Medical Services for the annual ABATE Freedom Rally this July. Kossuth County EMS Director Phil Albers addressed the Board of Supervisors during their meeting on Tuesday. He says ABATE organizers had given the EMS service a $1,000 donation in previous years to help offset costs of the extra staff needed during the rally, which last year would have been over $6,000.

Albers says he presented a way to help offset those staffing costs to rally organizers.

Albers says the amount of calls from the rally necessitates having more staff on hand or leaving parts of the county uncovered.

He says it’s not unprecedented for big events to help cover these costs.

The Supervisors plan to have further talks on the issue before this year’s rally is held July 3rd-6th at Freedom Park northeast of Algona.
