After narrowly missing a state medal in 2024 with a 9th place finish at the class 1A state meet, North Union junior Drew Henderson earned the coveted medal with a seventh place finish from the South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo at the class 1A state meet.
Henderson’s final tally from the two days was 152, with a first day score of 77 and second day total of 75, finishing eight over par for the two day competition.
The Warrior junior put together a consistent performance, finishing with par or better on 24 of the 36 holes for the meet. His six birdies were tied for the second most of any golfer.
Henderson performed well on some of the tougher holes on the course, as he was -2 on par fives with four pars and three birdies, with the -2 on those holes being tied for the best mark of any golfer. Henderson was the 5th best golfer of the meet on par fours, with a score of +3 on those holes, with 12 pars and three birdies.
First place went to Keith Thompson (Hamburg) with a score of 145 over the two days. He was followed by Liam Schrock (Hillcrest Academy) with 146, Jackson Keizer (Boyden-Hull) with 147, Carson Streeter (South Winneshiek) with 149, and Chase Jahde (CAM) with 151 in the top five.
The team title for class 1A went to Boyden-Hull with 618, as they were followed by South Winneshiek with 638, and Woodbine with 656 in the top three.
