–One block of Thorington Street in downtown Algona will close on Monday as construction is set to begin on the Nebraska Street Corridor project.

A release from the city says Thorington Street will close today between Nebraska Street and McGregor Street. The parking lot at the corner of Nebraska and Thorington Streets will close later this week and will remain closed for up to four months.

Businesses on State Street will have limited access to the alley within the parking lot from Dodge Street, but that will also see temporary closures over the summer due to construction. Sidewalk access will remain in place for the most part, with temporary closures during grading and concrete work.

Properties in the area will experience temporary utility interruptions during the project, as periodic water shutdowns will be necessary.

The project includes a full reconstruction of two blocks of Thorington Street from State Street to McGregor Street, one block of Nebraska Street from Thorington to Dodge and reconstruction of the Nebraska/Thorington Street city parking lot. All major work on the surrounding streets and parking lot will be completed by November 15th.

You can learn more about the project online at www.algonaiowa.gov  and at the project website www.clients.bolton-menk.com/algonadowntownculturaldistrict/.
