–Distracted driving may have played a role in a one-vehicle accident last week in northern Kossuth County where a NW Iowa woman left the road and flipped her car.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Alexa Wiese of Lake Park was traveling west on Iowa Highway 9 around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, May 27th, when she failed to follow a curve in the roadway and went straight into the north ditch.

The 2010 Volkswagen she was driving ramped over a railroad embankment and went airborne, landing on the front of the vehicle. Wiese’s vehicle then went end over end one time before coming to rest on its wheels.

The accident report states that Wiese was talking on a handheld device at the time of the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time and reported only minor injuries before being transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $15,000.
