–POET is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Biorefining Plant in Emmetsburg with a free celebration Saturday at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds. Ben Gustafson is the plant’s General Manager, and he tells KLGA News the festivities will begin with a tractor ride Saturday afternoon.

The celebration will include Driving Plant Tours from 2-4 PM, inflatables for the kids from 3-7 PM, a meal served by the Palo Alto County Cattlemen from 5-7 PM, and a live performance by the Big Time Grain Company band from 7-10:30PM. Gustafson says it’s amazing how much things have changed for the better over the last 20 years.

The plant opened in the spring of 2005, and Gustafson says they still have six employees who were there on day one.

Amongst all the different activities, there will be a special program and presentation around 6:30 PM where the employees will hand out the funds for their “Never Satisfied” grant. Gustafson says the grant is a tremendous way for the company to be involved in the community.

Gustafson says the Municipal Band did not need the full grant amount this year, so the remaining funds will be distributed to a local church food pantry. All the activities are free of charge, and everyone is welcome to attend.
