–A pair of candidates seeking federal office attended an event hosted by the Kossuth County Democrats on Sunday.
Nathan Sage is a Mason City native who served three tours of duty in Iraq, and most recently worked as the Director the Knoxville Area Chamber of Commerce. Sage is running as a Democrat who is looking to challenge 2-term Senator Joni Ernst in 2026.
Sage is one of three candidates currently seeking the Democratic party nomination in this race, along with former Congressional Candidate J.D. Scholten from Sioux City and State Senator Zach Wahls from Coralville. Sage says there are a number of ways in which he stands out from the other Democrats in the race.
Sage has launched a statewide campaign in an effort to meet voters in each of Iowa’s 99 counties as quickly as possible. He says some of the best advice he got, and something he is trying to do as he meets with Iowans, is to simply shut up and listen.
Ashley WolfTornabane is currently the only Democrat running in Iowa’s 4th Congressional district, launching her campaign within the last few weeks.
WolfTornabane is a stay-at-home mom from Storm Lake who says healthcare is her major campaign issue.
In 2024, Democratic challenger Ryan Melton received roughly 33% of the vote against incumbent Republican Randy Feenstra. WolfTornabane says she knows the difficulties of running as a Democrat in Northwest Iowa.
There are three Republicans currently seeking the 4th District seat, with Congressman Feenstra raising funds to run for Governor in 2026 instead of seeking a 4th term. Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitil of Missouri Valley and Siouxland Chamber of Commerce Director Chris McGowan have both launched campaigns within the last month, while Humboldt County Farmer Kyle Larsen announced his candidacy earlier today.
