–A traffic stop Friday afternoon near Sexton resulted in multiple charges being filed against a man who is wanted in Virginia and has been eluding law enforcement for several years.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies learned that an individual working road construction along Highway 18 may have multiple out-of-state warrants for his arrest. An investigation revealed the suspect has been using aliases and fake identification to avoid law enforcement for several years.

That investigation prompted Deputies to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle the suspect was driving near the intersection of Highway 18 and 190th Avenue around 12:10 PM Friday (July 18). While conducting the stop, Deputies confirmed his identity and found illegal substances in the vehicle.

At that time, they arrested the driver, identified as 34-year-old William O’Bryant Thompson of Jarratt, Virginia on charges of:

–Possession of a Controlled Substance (1st offense)—Serious Misdemeanor

–Possession of Marijuana (3rd offense)—Aggravated Misdemeanor

–Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License

Thompson was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance. He will be extradited back to Virginia to face charges there once the Kossuth County Case has been resolved.
