All-state teams have been released in high school softball after an announcement earlier this week from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, as five KLGA area athletes earned all-state honors.

In class 3A, two Algona Bulldogs were named as all-state selections, with Reagan Haynes earning first team all-state honors, and Allison Trunkhill being named to the all-state second team.

Haynes concluded her sophomore campaign with a .427 batting average, 7 homers, and 35 RBI, while playing stellar defense from the catcher position. The junior Trunkhill batted .396 with 3 home runs and 23 RBI, while compiling a 16-6 record and 1.99 ERA as a pitcher, with 135 strikeouts and 20 walks in 130 innings pitched.

In class 1A, Bishop Garrigan senior Hanna Merron was a 3rd team all-state selection, while North Union sophomore Ainsley Ulrich also earned a third team selection, with fellow sophomore Shallie Walders earning an honorable mention for class 1A.

Merron was a .382 hitter with 9 home runs and 35 RBI. Merron’s 9 home runs were 5th in class 1A and led the Top of Iowa West, as her RBI total also led the conference.

For North Union, Ulrich hit .427 with 2 home runs and 33 RBI, adding 18 steals. She pitched 158 innings to the tune of a 21-8 record and 2.48 ERA, with 210 strikeouts and 89 walks in 158 innings. Walders hit .422 with 1 homer and 21 RBI, adding 12 steals.
