–A new support group aimed at assisting area mothers who are breastfeeding their child will meet for the first time tonight in Algona. Brianne Wilson is a Registered Nurse and Certified Lactation Counselor within the Community Health Department at Kossuth Regional Health Center, and she tells KLGA News they will offer instruction during these meetings, but also take the time to answer any and all questions.
Wilson says they want to make sure moms have the support they need to meet the challenges associated with breastfeeding, and they will discuss several different ways to help them succeed.
The launch of the support group coincides with World Breastfeeding Week, which runs through August 7th and National Breastfeeding Month, which is recognized each August. Wilson says they want to offer this support because the benefits to both mother and child are a public health priority.
The Breastfeeding Support Group will meet tonight at the Community & Culture Connections Center, located at 315 S. Moore Street in Algona, beginning at 6:30 PM. If you can’t make it tonight, the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 26th. Snacks and beverages will be provided, and no preregistration is required to attend. If you have any questions, contact the Community Health Department at Kossuth Regional Health Center by calling 515-295-4430.
