–One driver was cited, and minor injuries were reported following a 2-vehicle accident in central Kossuth County Monday morning.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Keiah Mencias of Titonka was traveling northbound on 150th Avenue in a 2010 Nissan Surano just before 8AM Monday. At the same time, 44-year-old Roberta Jahnke of Titonka was southbound on 150th Avenue in a 2021 GMC Acadia.
The accident report states that Mencias was adjusting a bag in the car when he crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane. Jahnke told Deputies she saw the Mencias vehicle in her lane and attempted to avoid the collision by taking the left side of the road.
Mencias also took action to avoid the collision, but the vehicles ended up striking each other on the front driver’s side. Each driver reported pain from their airbags and seatbelts, and both were taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona by a family member.
Mencias was cited for traveling on the wrong side of a 2-lane highway. Damage to both vehicles was estimated to be $10,000.
