–The Algona City Council continued discussions on how to address sewer backups across the community during their meeting this week. Residents along South Main Street addressed the council during their regular session Tuesday, after heavy rains last month caused sewage to backups once again. Lori Walton spoke to the council after she had to return early from a vacation to deal with several inches of raw sewage in her basement.

Gary Larson also addressed the council, reminding them of the impact these problems have on the everyday lives of homeowners.

The council unanimously approved a pair of resolutions Tuesday, seeking bids for the latest efforts to stop inflow and infiltration of the sanitary sewers. One project will provide new lining for over 2,500 feet of sewer pipes while the other will rehab 96 manholes at various locations across town where water is entering the sewer system.
