–A Humboldt County man has been sentenced to 8 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon earlier this year.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 37-year-old Lawrence Moore of Bode was sentenced on September 4th to 96 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to the charge on April 10th. Moore had been previously convicted of Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery in Illinois, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
In the fall of 2024, court records show Moore was involved in negotiations with an undercover agent, attempting to buy and sell firearms. On November 18th of 2024, a search warrant was executed at Moore’s residence, where law enforcement found a Smith & Wesson Model 59 semi-automatic pistol, which Moore had talked about while speaking to the undercover agent. The fully loaded firearm was found, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Following his 8-year sentence, Moore will also have to serve a 3-year term of supervised release.
