–Parents and caregivers with young children can stop by an event Saturday afternoon in Algona to make sure they have their kids properly secured while riding in a car. Brianne Wilson is a Certified Car Seat Technician with Kossuth County Community Health, and she tells KLGA News they will be in the parking lot of First Lutheran Church to help anyone with questions.
Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show car seats can reduce fatal injuries for children by over 70% when they are installed correctly.
Statistics also show that nearly half of all car seats are not installed correctly or are not being used as directed.
This event is being held in conjunction with national Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs September 21-27. Wilson says they want to make sure each and every child across the area can ride safely and that parents have the knowledge needed to make that happen.
The free car seat check will be held from 1-4 PM Saturday in the parking lot of First Lutheran Church in Algona, located at 226 North Putnam Street. If you have questions about your child’s safety seat, you can contact Kossuth County Community Health at any time by calling 515-295-4430.
