Local Candidates Announced for November’s City and School Board Elections

–There will be a handful of contested races across Kossuth County in November’s city and school board elections.

**In Algona, Mayor Rick Murphy is running unopposed for another 2-year term while there is one contested race for City Council. Incumbent Rodney Davis is being challenged by Carl Westling for the Ward 1 council seat.

Write-in candidates will be needed to fill the other 2 seats on the council that are up for election this fall.

Ward 3 Councilman Don Johnson and At-Large Councilman Brad Hoover are not seeking reelection, and nobody has filled out the paperwork to put their names on the ballot.

**In Bancroft, Randy Greve and Jaimes Looft are the two names on the ballot for 3 spots on the city council.

**In Burt, Randy Wood is the only name on the ballot for Mayor, while there are 4 people seeking two 4-year terns on the city council. Connie Kadow, Richard Ricther, Harlod Lavrenz, and Christopher Myhre are seeking those seats.

Also in Burt, Megan Jahnke and Perry Diekhuis are on the ballot to fill out the final 2-years of a vacant seat on the city council.

**In Fenton, there are 3 seats on the city council up for election this fall, and each will need to be filled by a write-in candidate.

**In Lakota, Tanner Weringa and Brittany Price are the two names on the ballot for 3 seats on the city council.

**In Ledyard, Mayor Robert Gilbertson is unopposed in his bid for reelection, while Jeremy Thompson is the only candidate for two separate 4-year terms on the city council. John Ternes is the only name on the ballot to fill the final two years of a vacant seat.

**In Lone Rock, Gerald Thompson and Nicholas Harmon are on the ballot for Mayor, while Randall Wayne Bollinger and Bill Helton are unopposed in seeking reelection to the city council.

**In Lu Verne, Mayor Kevin McPeak is unopposed as he seeks another term while Cassidy Vitzthum is the only name on the ballot for 2 spots on the city council.

**Swea City has contested races for Mayor and City Council. Troy Langford will challenge incumbent Wendy Zielske for Mayor, while 5 people are seeking 2 seats on the city council. Incumbent Randy Perdue is on the ballot along with Tyler Potter, Deb Johnson, Andy Donnelly, and Sarah Dale Anderson for the 2 city council spots.

**In Titonka, incumbent Katie Prothman is the only name on the ballot for 2 spots on the city council.

**In Wesley, Craig Florea is unopposed in the mayor’s race, while Paige Grein, Katelin Rosenmeyer, Melissa Johnson, and Joella Leider are seeking the 2 open spots on the city council.

**In Whittemore, Mayor Dan Elbert is unopposed in seeking another term as Mayor, while incumbents Karla Walker and Stuart Simonson are the two names on the ballot for the 2 seats on the city council.

There are no contested local races for school board.

**The Algona Community School District has 3 seats up for election this year, with incumbents Rodney Davis, Lany Mitchell, and Jay Limbaugh all seeking reelection.

**Phil Albers and Megan Heetland are both seeking reelection to the North Kossuth School Board, while a write-in candidate will be needed to fill the 3rd seat up for election.
