–Area residents on Medicare are being reminded to go over some important information before the open enrollment period begins in October. Marla Steier serves as a volunteer with the local Senior Health Insurance Information Program, better known as SHIIP.

Steier says that document is vital when it comes to finding the best coverage plan for the coming year.

Starting in 2026, Steier says Medicare will begin negotiating prices for certain prescription medications.

Steier says make sure and review the first few pages of that ANOC form so you can see if you’ll need to make changes in your own plan.

Anyone with questions about their Medicare plans can talk with a SHIIP counselor this fall to find the plan right for them. Steier says packets were sent out earlier this month to everyone who spoke with a volunteer last year. If you would like to get a SHIIP information packet, they are available at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, the Bancroft Clinic or any library in Kossuth County. If you would like a volunteer to contact you, call the SHIIP office at 515-295-4658 and leave a message.
