–The 77th annual Algona Band Day Festival is coming up on Saturday, with over a dozen High School and Middle School marching bands scheduled to participate. Algona Chamber of Commerce Director Avery Pedersen says the parade through the downtown area will have plenty of entrants in between the band performances.
Algona businessman and philanthropist Don Tietz will serve as grand marshal for the parade through downtown Algona. The bands and entrants will follow the usual route down State Street, starting near Central Park and marching all the way to Thorington Street. Many area residents begin putting their chairs out on Friday afternoon to get the prime viewing spots for Saturday’s parade.
Pedersen says the population of Algona nearly doubles when people come to town for Band Day.
Saturday’s activities begin at 8 AM as the Algona Recreation Department will host the annual Tornado Alley run. There is a 1-mile fun run to go along with well as a 5K and 10K race. During the parade, some local food trucks will be located at the VFW to compliment the other downtown food establishments that will be open. Following the parade, the marching bands will head to Algona High School for the Field Show at Bulldog Stadium, beginning at 5:30 PM. The public is reminded there is a $8 entry fee for adults to watch the field show. You can watch the band day parade by clicking on the below.
