DNR to Begin Stocking Trout at Certain Iowa Ponds and Lakes

Staff from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be stocking trout at 18 lakes and ponds around the state soon. Mike Siepker, a regional fisheries supervisor for the agency, and he says up to 2,000 rainbow trout will be released at each location.

There are family-friendly activities planned at many of the lakes which will be stocked with trout later this month and in November.

But in the fall, all water in Iowa is considered cold enough for trout to survive and that’s why the D-N-R stocks ponds this time of year with trout raised at the state fisheries.

Siepker says the locations being stocked were picked because they met key criteria.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources website has a Community Trout Stocking Schedule that lists when lakes are being stock and which lakes are having events. Children under the age of 16 can fish for trout — if they’re accompanied by a properly licensed adult. Find out more by clicking the link below:
