–The City of Algona will hold an open house Tuesday evening to hear from the public with regards to the former Peck Auction House property. The city has partnered with the landscape architecture students from Iowa State University to help create plans for the space. Mayor Rick Murphy tells KLGA News that he was able to participate in a design workshop with these students back in July.
The 51 acres of land was donated to the city by the Donald R. Tietz Charitable Foundation back in 2024.
The information provided on Tuesday will help the students shape their final plans before they can be presented to the city.
The open house will run from 4:30-7:30 PM Tuesday at City Hall, as the public can come and go as they please. The 51 acres of land is located south of the Algona Aquatic Center and includes open green space, wooded areas and access to the East Fork of the Des Moines River. If you can’t make it to the open house on Tuesday, you can call City Hall with any ideas you may have at 515-295-2411.
