–There are contested races in five communities across Kossuth County for today’s city and school board elections, while many more are either uncontested or in need of a write-in candidate.
In Algona, the only contested City Council race is in the 1st ward, where Carl Westling is challenging incumbent Rodney Davis. A write-in candidate will be needed in the 3rd ward and for the At-Large seat on the council up for election.
Algona Mayor Rick Murphy is unopposed as he seeks another 2-year term.
The other contested races around Kossuth County include:
–In Burt, there are four names on the ballot for two full 4-year terms on the city council. Incumbent Richard Richter is being joined by Connie Kadow, Harold Lavrenz and Christopher Myhre in a bid for those 2 seats.
Also in Burt, there is a 2-year term on the council to fill a vacancy up for grabs, with Megan Jahnke and Perry Diekhuis on the ballot for that spot.

Incumbents Rodney Davis, Lany Mitchell and Jay Limbaugh all filed paperwork to seek another term on the Algona School Board, while John Emswiler has recently launched a write-in campaign for one of those spots.
There are 3 seats up for election on the North Kossuth School Board, with a pair of incumbents already on the ballot. Phil Albers is unopposed for the Director District #1 seat while Megan Heetland is the only name on the ballot for 2 spots in District #2.
