–Residents in the Emmetsburg School District will vote on a pair of ballot measures today that would fund construction of a new elementary school if approved. The bond issue failed to garner the necessary 60% voter approval last November, forcing administrators to take another look at their plan. Emmetsburg Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News that they sought feedback from voters after last year’s bond issue came up short.

Jenness says after receiving this feedback, they made some changes to the project that would bring costs down.

The district has a purchase agreement in place for the land where a new elementary building would be located, if voters give their support. Jenness says they have a plan in place so that the current West Elementary building will not become an eyesore in the community.

Public Measure RB is the bond referendum that would provide up to $25.62 Million to build the new elementary. Public Measure RC seeks authorization to raise the district’s debt levy to $3.25 per $1,000. The district does not need to levy that full amount for the proposed projects. Both measures need 60% voter approval to pass.
