–There were contested races in five communities around Kossuth County Tuesday, and some have been decided by the slimmest of margins.
–In Algona, the only contested city council race saw Carl Westling edge incumbent Rodney Davis 78-76 for the Ward 1 seat. The Ward 3 seat will be determined by write-in votes, as 32 votes were cast. The At-Large seat on the council will also be sorted out once write-in votes are tabulated, as 313 votes were cast.
–In Burt, they had a pair of contested races for city council. Two full 4-year terms were up for grabs, with Christopher Myhre (96) and Richard Ricther (95) claiming those seats, ahead of Connie Kadow (52) and Harold Lavrenz (17).
The race to fill the remaining 2-years of a vacant seat on the council went to Megan Jahnke, who defeated Perry Diekhuis 77-57.
–In Lone Rock, Jerry Thompson won the mayor’s race, defeating Nicholas Harmon 25-15.
–In Swea City, there were contested races for Mayor and City Council. Troy Langford received 67% of the vote to become Mayor, defeating Wendy Zielske 151-71.
Randy Perdue and Deb Johnson were the unofficial winners of the 2 seats on the city council, with Perdue grabbing 141 votes and Johnson getting 110. Andy Donnelly finished a close 3rd with 102 votes, while Sarah Anderson (60) and Tyler Potter (6) were further back.
–In Wesley, Katelin Rosenmeyer and Paige Grein won the 2 seats up for grabs on the city council. Rosenmeyer (72) and Grein (68) came out in front of Melissa Johnson (52) and Joella Leider (37).
The Algona School Board saw incumbents Rodney Davis (951), Jay Limbaugh (950) and Lany Mitchell (923) win reelection, with a total of 255 write-in votes cast.
–The city council race in Bancroft could change once write-in votes are counted. Jaimes Looft and Randy Greve were the 2 names on the ballot for the two seats up for election, with Looft gathering 76 votes and Greve 35. However, 143 write in votes were cast in the race, meaning one could be overtaken when those names are revealed.
