–Leaders in the Emmetsburg School District are planning their next moves after a bond issue that would be used to fund a new elementary building failed for the second time on Tuesday. Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News he found Tuesday’s results to be interesting.
More than half of voters supported the measure, but not enough to meet the 60% threshold for passage.
The Emmetsburg district is looking to replace the aging West Elementary building, which is in need of major upgrades. Jenness says other districts are feeling the same pain that he is after Tuesday’s vote.
Prior to the first bond referendum in 2024, the district entered into a purchase agreement for land on the north side of Emmetsburg that was good for two years.
Jenness says the next move will be up to the school board.
The district plans to assess their options over the next several months before deciding how to proceed.
