Emmetsburg Man Pleads Guilty in West Bend Theft Case

–An Emmetsburg man has pleaded guilty to theft charges following an incident last weekend at a convenience store in West Bend.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to an alarm call at the Cenex convenience store just after 8 PM Saturday. An investigation determined that an employee, identified as 23-year-old Elias Steven Meyer, had forgotten to lock the door when he left the for the night, which triggered the alarm.

A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court notes that Deputies observed broken items on the floor inside, prompting a review of the store’s security footage. The complaint goes on to say that Meyer could be seen on the tape damaging property inside the store and taking things like beer and cigarettes without paying.

Meyer was charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief and 5th Degree Theft. He pleaded guilty to both of the charges and has been ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
