Weekend Shooting Death Near Goldfield Ruled Accidental

–Law Enforcement officials in Humboldt County say a weekend shooting at a rural residence near Goldfield that killed one person was an accident.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the report of an accidental shooting at 3372 210th Street, about 2.5 miles west of Goldfield just after 8:15 PM on Friday, November 28th.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that 26-year-old George Filmalter was handling a gun that he believed to be unloaded in the dining room of the residence. Filmalter discharged the firearm into his body and died as a result of the shooting.

Officials have classified the shooting as accidental, as witnesses inside the residence confirmed that Filmalter believed the gun was not loaded, and was not attempting to harm himself as the time.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, the Eagle Grove Police Department, the Renwick Ambulance Service, the Humboldt Ambulance Service, and the Humboldt County Medical Examiner’s Office.
