–A family-owned farmstand in rural Hancock County is one of eight finalists in a contest sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau which aims to help young entrepreneurs expand their operations. Clinton Schutjer operates the Schutjer Farm Stand near Woden with his wife Jaci and two children. In an interview with KLGA News, Schutjer says they started putting the operation together about a year ago with the idea of operating a pumpkin patch and a retail location that sells a variety of homemade products.
Schutjer, who is a Farm Bureau member, says his wife put together a promotional video after they learned of the contest, which will provide cash prizes for the top 3 vote getters from the field of eight finalists.
Voting runs through Sunday, December 14th, with the winners to be announced next month. Schutjer says they have a link on their Facebook page, where you can vote each day.
The top 3 vote getters will compete in a pitch-off during the Iowa Farm Bureau Young Farmer’s Conference on January 24th, with the grand-prize winner taking home $10,000 to expand their business, with 2nd place being a $5,000 prize and 3rd place receiving $2,500.
