–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors took care of some procedural items during their first meeting of 2026 last Friday, which included selecting Carter Nath to serve another year as chairman. The supervisors received recommendations from the county’s compensations board during the meeting with regards to salaries for elected officials. Chairman Nath reiterated that these figures are for budgeting purposes and could be altered if needed.
The compensation board had recommended a 3.5% increase for all elected officials with the exception of Sheriff Roger Fisher, for whom they recommended an 11% increase. The Supervisors altered those figures slightly, offering a 6% increase for the Sheriff and 3% for the rest of the elected officials. The higher recommendations for the sheriff are an effort to comply with the “Back the Blue” law passed in 2021 that mandated salaries be comparable to police chiefs and State Patrol command officers.
The Supervisors also discussed how to seek design plans for a possible EMS facility at the county owned building on South Phillips Street. Nath says there are a few questions that these designs could answer.
Kossuth Regional Health Center approached the county in late 2025 with a proposal to buy the current EMS facility that is located at the north end of the hospital in an effort to expand their lab space. The board gave directions to EMS Director Phil Albers and Emergency Management Coordinator Charissa Mueller to coordinate with local firms so they can see the facility in person and submit possible designs.
