–Members of the Kossuth Childcare Coalition made a presentation to the Algona City Council during their meeting Monday evening as their fundraising campaign is underway. These funds will be used to assist daycare providers in the county so more working families can have safe and reliable places to take their children. Joanne Roepke-Bode is part of the coalition and addressed the council Monday, stating they are looking to raise around $200,000.
The coalition has received a pledge of $50,000 in matching funds from the Donald Tietz Charitable Foundation to help get the project off the ground. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden says they have had talks with Algona Municipal Utilities to partner with the city in assisting the venture.

The funds will be distributed to daycare providers through the Kossuth County Community Foundation for projects that can add daycare slots and find space for more children. The Kossuth Childcare Coalition is a cooperative effort between the City of Algona, the Kossuth/Palo Alto Economic Development Corporation, the Algona Area Economic Development Corporation, and the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce. Their goal is to work in collaboration to support daycare sustainability and expansion in the county.
