–The Kossuth County Community Foundation held their 2025 grant awards celebration Tuesday morning, handing out over $177,000 to area non-profits and governmental entities. The awards are handed out in six different categories: Arts & Culture, Community Betterment, Education and Youth Development, Environment and Animal Welfare, Health, and Human Service.
The largest single-award of $25,000 went to the Kossuth County CARE Team to assist with Loving Hands Nursery. Ashley Grindberg serves as the Director for Loving Hands Nursery, and she talked about what led them to seek this funding.
The City of Swea City received just over $20,000 to help their fire department purchase new equipment. Chris Stevens with the Swea City Fire Department says the money will help them replace a number of their Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
The City of Whittemore is getting $6,500 to replace equipment at their public library. Sandy Long is the Library Director in Whittemore, and she says the building’s air conditioners stopped working last summer, and the money will be used to replace them.
The City of Algona received $5,500 to help with their renovations at Veteran’s Park. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden says the work will be centered around the east baseball/softball field, with new bleachers being installed.
In total, 26 separate awards were handed out, totaling $177,678 to area non-profits and governmental organizations that serve the citizens of Kossuth County.
