–Another case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 HPAI) has been detected in Kossuth County, the second such case in less than a week.
According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship and the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the positive case has been reported in a multi-species game bird hatchery in Kossuth County. Officials say the flock includes pheasants, quail and chukars.
IDALS officials are reminding poultry producers and backyard flock owners, especially in and around Kossuth County, to continue bolstering their biosecurity practices and protocols.
Anyone who suspects their flocks may have avian influenza should contact their veterinarian immediately and the Iowa Department of Agriculture at 515-281-5305.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking anyone who may find 20 or more sick or dead wild birds in a small area to report the findings to their local DNR Wildlife Management staff.
