–The Iowa Pork Industry Center and the Iowa Pork Producers Association are teaming up to offer biosecurity workshops across the state this spring. Matt Romoser is a Swine Field Specialist with the Iowa Pork Industry Center, and he tells KLGA News they want to make sure producers across the state have the latest information to keep their herds safe and healthy.

The workshops will include educational presentations and biosecurity demonstrations led by swine specialists. Romoser says part of the hands-on demonstration will include the use of their Biosecurity trailer that comes completely stocked with on-farm personal protective equipment (PPE).

Romoser says the trailer can be illuminated with blacklight to help demonstrate what producers may inadvertently be bringing into their facilities.

Diseases like Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, better known as PRRS, and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) can be transmitted by everyday interactions.

The first workshop is scheduled for February 11th in Cedar Rapids. On March 4th, a workshop will be held at the Iowa State Northern Research Farm in Kanawha from 1-3 PM. Producers can sign up by going to www.ipic.iastate.edu/workshops.
