–A pair of local candidates who will be on the ballot in June’s Republican Party primary will hold a meet and greet event Saturday morning in Algona. Christian Schlaefer of rural Lakota is seeking GOP nomination in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, while Stacy Besch of Algona is challenging incumbent Dave Rowley in Iowa’s 5th Senate District. Schlaefer tells KLGA News they are hoping to see as many people as possible at their event Saturday morning.
Republicans and Democrats across the state gathered Monday for their mid-term caucuses, and some of the GOP sites took straw polls just to gauge interest in the slate of candidates. While the results are unofficial, both Schlaefer and Besch fared well.
The meet and greet will be held at the Cinco De Mayo restaurant in Algona.
Both candidates will continue with events throughout the area to gear up for the June 2nd primary. Iowa’s 4th congressional district contains 36 counties, including Kossuth and all the surrounding counties. Iowa Senate District 5 encompasses all of Kossuth, Winnebago, Emmet, Palo Alto and Dickinson counties, along with portions of Clay County.
